The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed a lawsuit charging that FedEx discriminated for years against deaf and partly deaf workers and applicants. The lawsuit was filed in United States District Court in Baltimore and announced on Friday. The E.E.O.C. says FedEx did not provide American Sign Language interpretation or closed-captioned training videos during mandatory tours and new-hire orientation or during staff and safety meetings. The lawsuit arose from 19 discrimination charges filed nationwide. FedEx says that it is committed to fair and equal treatment of employees and that the E.E.O.C.’s claims are misleading.
