Community Emergency Response Team (CERT):  Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Join James Sobecke, Operations Lead for Fairfax County CERT, for a virtual program about the CERT program and how deaf and hard of hearing individuals can be part of the volunteer program.  The emphasis will be on the 'neighbors helping neighbors' mission aspect of CERT and the unique capabilities that CERT volunteers bring to the community.  James will discuss some of the recent tasks CERT volunteers have filled during the COVID-19 pandemic, and how they work with other county agencies and programs.

There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation.

James Sobecke has been an active member of Fairfax County CERT since 2008.  He is currently the Operations Division Lead and the CERT Community Volunteer Training Coordinator.  As a Lead Instructor, James has organized and taught more than 26 CERT basic training classes at locations in communities across the county.  He is responsible for the CERT Traffic and Crowd Management training as well as being the coordinator and manager of the CERT Radio Team.  James has a long history of emergency response and management experience from college days as a volunteer with Chicago Civil Defense Fire and Rescue, throughtout 20 years in the military, and then 27 years as a government contractor.  James resides in Springfield, VA.
