Comments Requested for Statewide Independent Living Council State Plan for Independent Living
The Statewide Independent Living Council, which identifies and coordinates statewide policy development and program planning to meet the independent living needs of Virginians with disabilities, requests your input on the proposed State Plan for Independent Living. For comments to be considered for the 2014 – 2016 State Plan development, they must be received by March 1, 2013. However, public input is welcomed at any time.
The Statewide Independent Living Council recommends and oversees funding priorities and policies related to the growth, expansion, and maintenance of the statewide network of centers for independent living. The center for independent living serving Northern Virginia is ENDependence Center of Northern Virginia.
Every three years, the Statewide Independent Living Council conducts a survey in partnership with the Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services and the Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired. Community input in past years has resulted a new center for independent living in Manassas and a satellite in Loudoun, as well as enhancements in accessible, affordable housing, transportation, and personal assistance services as statewide systems advocacy priorities.
Complete the survey online or you can send written comments to Rhonda Jeter, SILC Administrator, 8004 Franklin Farms Drive, Henrico, VA 23229. If you require an alternate format of the proposed plan or the public comment form, contact Rhonda Jeter at 804-325–1360, TTY 800 464-9950 or Rhonda.Jeter@dars.virginia.gov.
