2013 VSA International Young Soloists Call for Entries Now Extended to January 29, 2013!
The application deadline for the 2013 VSA International Young Soloists Competition has been extended to January 29, 2013. We invite entries from instrumentalists and vocalists ages 14 to 25 with a disability. The competition is open to international and domestic applicants, individuals and ensembles of two to five members, and musicians of all genres.
Since 1984, the VSA International Young Soloists Program has identified talented musicians who have a disability. This program annually selects up to four outstanding musicians from the United States and the international arena, and supports and encourages them in their pursuit of a career. These emerging musicians receive $2,500, professional development opportunities, and a performance at the Kennedy Center.
New Deadline: January 29, 2013
Guidelines, application, and more information available at: www.kennedy-center.org/IYS
What is the definition of a disability? The Americans with Disabilities Act defines disability as "a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities" of an individual. An impairment is a physiological disorder affecting one or more of a number of body systems, or a mental or psychological disorder. A disability may be visible (e.g., a person who is blind or uses a wheelchair) or invisible (e.g., a person with a learning or developmental disability).
